Mindfulness making it into the corporate world

Summary of how three large companies (Aetna, Intel and Keurig Green Mountan) have started to embrace mindfulness in the work place, the reported improvements by participants and questions around how to startup a mindfulness program at in a corporation.

  • Aetna had a 12 week course resulting in much lower healthcare costs. Trial with 239 employees, now expanding.
  • Intel, have a 19 session course call Awake@Intel, starting in 2012. Qualitative improvements such as decreased stress, increased happiness.
  • Green Mountain saw reduction in workplace injuries.

  2. One hopes that the mindfulness movement will not follow the usual trajectory of most corporate fads — unbridled enthusiasm, uncritical acceptance of the status quo, and eventual disillusionment. To become a genuine force for positive personal and social transformation, it must reclaim an ethical framework and aspire to more lofty purposes that take into account the well-being of all living beings.
